Enemy of My Enemy by Jane McBride
Enemy of My Enemy by Jane McBride
poetry
reptilian god, god of the desert
god of rebecca and of jacob
trickster god, usurper god
airplane pillow around my neck
garter god, gotcha! god
legless god of the last in line
grinning god, guerrilla god
prankster backstabber eye-roller man-hater
god of the underdog, god of the dance floor of gossip and girls’ night and gimme a break
handbag god. gabbana god.
god of my brand-new snakeskin boots.
we have long conspired, you and i,
against men
this man
this middle ground
but i’m not naive enough to believe
that the enemy
of my enemy
is my friend
